Fright-for-all: Halloween events in the Worcester area offer something for everyone

WORCESTER - Spooky season is upon us and with it an entire pumpkin crop of spooky, fun and tasty events in the greater Worcester area. Finding them all and making decisions of where you’re going can be a little overwhelming, so here’s a list organized by category of where you can go to celebrate all that is scary.

Costume contests

Looking to show off your Halloween spirit? Compete with a host of ghosts and goblins to see who’s the scariest.

Monster Bash - Costume Party and Variety show

Husky’s Pub, 413 Park Ave., Worcester

Wednesday, Oct. 26

7:30 p.m

Enjoy an evening of sketches, stand-up and music. Prizes will be awarded for costume contest winners. Ticket purchases come with a drink token. Tickets are $15. Event is 21 and over.

Halloween Pop-up

Creative Hub, 653 Main St., Worcester

Saturday, Oct. 29

5 to 8 p.m.

Show off your costume along with a scavenger hunt and raffle! Tickets are $14

Kid friendly

Need somewhere to take your little monsters trick-or-treating? Here are a couple destinations to help your kids celebrate and for you to not be the only adult.

Boylston Elementary Pumpkin Festival FUNdraiser

Boylston Elementary School, 200 Sewall St., Boylston

Saturday, Oct. 29

3 to 6 p.m.

Help raise money for the BES PTO with the second annual Pumpkin Festival. Activities include games, a family costume contest, with prizes for best adult and child costumes, and a crafts corner where kids can mix up some potions. As the name implies, festivities will naturally include a pumpkin contest with prizes for the best carved or painted pumpkins. Local food trucks and vendors will be on hand to provide treats and snacks including popcorn, cotton candy and ice cream. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The first 50 to register will also get a special goodie bag. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door for children 2 and over. Adults are free.

Kids Halloween Party

Mama Jamas Studio, 45 Charlotte St., Apt. #2, Worcester

Saturday, Oct. 29

1 to 4 p.m.

Just like it says on the box - a party for kids, complete with arts and crafts, music, games and not only a costume but dance contest! There will be snacks and refreshments.

Trick or Treat on Main Street

695 Main St., Fitchburg

Saturday, Oct. 29

noon to 2 p.m.

Main Street businesses will be open for trick-or-treating. See here for the full list of participants. Stop by 695 Main where Finicky Fork catering will be providing caramel apples and cider. Registration is free.

Food and drink

All the talk of treats got you hungry? Or maybe overindulging in candy has you thirsty. Check out these events for some local refreshments.

Halloween Charcuterie Workshop

Redemption Rock Brewery, 333 Shrewsbury St., Worcester

Monday, Oct. 24

6 p.m.

Get professional guidance in a step-by-step creation of your very own charcuterie board, using locally sourced cheese and meat on a 10-inch platter. Tickets are $65.

Hallo-wines, Weekend Wine’d Up Tasting Flight

Canal District Wines

Thursday Oct. 27 to Saturday, Oct. 29

Head down to Canal District Wines to check out five Halloween themed offerings. Tastings are held on the hour each day starting at noon until 6 p.m. Tastings are between 30 and 45 minutes, featuring five one ounce pours. Tickets are $15.

Good old fashioned spookiness

And finally, if you want some good old fashioned spookiness, come to Sturbridge for a potential Zoom chat with the other side.

“Connections” an event with the medium Gary McKinstry at the Publick House

Publick House Historic Inn, 277 Main St., Sturbridge

Thursday, Oct. 27

5:30 to 9 p.m.

Join Gary McKinstry for an evening of food, spirits and the other, spookier kind of spirits. Gallery-style medium readings alongside a Yankee Dinner buffet. Cocktail reception with a cash bar is 5:30 to 6 p.m. followed by dinner, with the show beginning at 7 p.m. Event will be held in Paige Hall. Tickets are $65.
