Frigid fundraiser: PRC-Saltillo workers take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

WOOSTER TWP. − A local company that develops speech-generating devices, spoke loudly with its actions Monday when employees took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

PRC-Saltillo on Heyl Road called its challenge Artic Blast. Eight of the company's leaders, dressed in costume, sat outside in the cold and had buckets of ice water dumped on them to raise money for ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

"Our mission is to provide voices for people who cannot communicate with their natural voice," said Dave Hershberger, company CEO, who was among those to brave the cold blast. "It's a mission that drives us, but we also believe in the mission of the ALS Association."

The company raised $8,300, which it is donating to the Northern Ohio Chapter of ALS, Hershberger announced. He thanked Talk To Me Technologies for challenging them and returned the challenge to the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce.
