Frigid temperatures, dangerous roads

Brrr! Good morning, happy snow day, and welcome to your Friday Daily Briefing. This is Tennessean planning director Madalyn Hoerr.

You might be literally living under a (very cold, snow covered) rock if you missed the weather yesterday. A fast winter storm walloped parts of Nashville with 7 inches of snow falling in some areas, prompting snow days, airport cancellations and creating treacherous roads across the region.

Thursday's storm didn't set any records, but we did see some impressive snowfall totals around the region.

A blast of frigid temperatures was expected to follow the snow overnight Thursday and into this morning, dipping to single digits in some areas.

Dangerous road conditions could linger into today. If you must travel, slow down and give yourself extra time, Nashville Mayor John Cooper tweeted.

Temperatures are forecast to remain below freezing until Saturday. Travel is expected to remain difficult until then.

📰 Looking for your paper? Due to the inclement weather, delivery of your Friday Tennessean may be delayed. Carriers will work to deliver your paper as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, subscribers can access the e-edition online. Not a subscriber yet? I have a theory supporting local journalism can make your heart warmer on a cold day.
