Frigid temperatures prompt warming center to open in Newark on Tuesday, Wednesday nights

A warming center will open in Newark on Tuesday and Wednesday due to forecasted frigid temperatures.

According to the Licking County Health Department, a warming center will open at the Disciple Factory, located at 50 S. 30th St. in Newark on Tuesday. The center will be open 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following day. The location will accept anyone at any time.

The National Weather Service forecasts low temperatures of 3 degrees in Newark on Tuesday night and -1 degree on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday, a warming center will open at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 592 E. Main St. in Newark, beginning at 5 p.m. until the following day at 9 a.m.

Transportation to Vertical 196 will be provided the morning after each warming center by Licking County Transit at 8 a.m. Food will be provided both days by Licking Memorial Hospital Culinary Services.

Transportation to the warming center will be provided in a loop by Vertical 196 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Wednesday, there will be an additional pick-up at 4 p.m. at Vertical 196. The van will loop through the following locations: South Newark Civic Association, Licking County Foundation, downtown Newark public library, and downtown Newark Salvation Army.
