Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin apparently plans to open a new primary care clinic on Milwaukee's east side, at 2071 N. Summit Ave., according to documents filed with the city. The documents do not give a timeline for the clinic's opening.

Plans have been submitted to the city for what would be a new Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin clinic on Milwaukee's east side.

Under the plan, the property, at 2071 N. Summit Ave., would become a health clinic that provides primary care, lab services and imaging to patients in Milwaukee, according to documents filed with the city's Department of Neighborhood Services.

The clinic would have 10-15 employees and would see an estimated 100 patients per day, the documents say.

A spokesperson for Froedtert declined to comment. The clinic has not been formally announced by the health system.

The project's developer, Weas Development Co., is seeking a special-use permit for the operation of a health clinic at the Summit Avenue property, which currently houses the Medical College of Wisconsin's Center for AIDS Intervention Research and a CrossFit gym.

Documents filed by the developer with the city said the name of the health clinic's operator would be revealed at a later date, but renderings of the finished clinic show Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin on the clinic's signage.

The city Board of Zoning Appeals is expected to review the permit request in December.

Weas Development is in the process of buying the Summit Avenue property for $2.92 million, according to the filings. The company plans to remodel the existing building at a cost between $2.5 million and $3 million.

The remodeled clinic would have a little over a dozen exam rooms, as well as an X-ray room and a room for lab work, according to plans filed with the city. It would also include a parking garage for employees.

The clinic hours would be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, the filings say. The documents do not say when the clinic might open or what the timeline is for the project.

Froedtert recently opened another new primary care office on the city's south side that also houses a residency program for training family medicine doctors. The Forest Home Health Center, 1316 W. Forest Home Ave., opened in June in a former CVS Pharmacy. The clinic provides primary care for children and adults, as well as behavioral health care, prenatal care, care after childbirth and care for newborns after hospital discharge, a June news release from Froedtert said.

The Forest Home clinic is meant to improve access to preventive care for the largely Hispanic community in the area and, with the residency program, to train more family medicine physicians in the Froedtert & MCW network.

Froedtert has two other primary care offices within Milwaukee's city limits: the McKinley Health Center, at 1271 N. Sixth St., in downtown Milwaukee, and the Good Hope Health Center, at 7208 N. 76th St., on the city's northwest side. Most of its other primary care offices, more than a dozen, are located in Milwaukee's suburbs and the outlying metro.
