Frontier adds two new cities as part of 3-route Denver expansion

Frontier will launch Denver-Hartford service in late March, offering three flights a week. Frontier last flew from the Connecticut airport in 2008.

Frontier Airlines announced three new nonstop routes from Denver on Tuesday, building out its network from its hometown and biggest hub.

The new service will begin in March, when Frontier connects Denver to Baltimore/Washington; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Hartford, Connecticut. (Scroll down for full schedule details.)

“With the addition of these three new routes, we now serve 93 cities non-stop from Denver,” Tyri Squyres, vice president of marketing for Frontier Airlines, said in a statement. “As Denver’s hometown airline, we are extremely proud to continue to not only make flying more affordable but to expand the number of non-stop destinations. In fact, in the last year alone, we announced or kicked off 37 new routes from Denver.”

Frontier already offered some service from Fort Lauderdale. The carrier does not currently fly from BWI or Hartford.

TODAY IN THE SKY: It's official: Hartford is back on the trans-Atlantic route map

In Hartford, Frontier last flew from the city in 2011, offering service to Milwaukee. Prior to that, Frontier flew from Hartford to Denver on a route that ended in 2008.

Connecticut officials welcomed the return of Frontier, which will give Hartford’s Bradley airport a ninth passenger airline.

“This launch is another great success for Bradley, and it builds upon the many route development successes that we have achieved this year and in years past,” Tony Sheridan, chair of the Connecticut Airport Authority that runs the airport.

TODAY IN THE SKY: Spirit's 'ultra low-cost' service coming to Hartford

Other carriers currently flying from Hartford are Aer Lingus, Air Canada, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit and United. Some of those airlines’ flights from Harford are operated by regional affiliates flying under brands like American Eagle, Delta Connection and United Express.

Although Denver is Frontier’s biggest base, flight times on two of the new routes appear to limit the number of connecting options. Frontier’s Denver-Fort Lauderdale schedule could allow for connections, but the red-eye schedule of the Florida-bound flight may not be ideal for many connecting customers.
