Frontier working to access federal grant money for hospital

Nov. 20—MOREHEAD — Frontier Housing is working to access a nearly $2,000 grant awarded to remediate Hayswood Hospital property in downtown Maysville.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency awarded Frontier Housing $1,999,900 in a Brownsfield Cleanup Grant in May. Frontier and Buffalo Trace Area Development District have been working with the Regional EPA office to finalize the grant agreement.

Tom Manning-Beavin, Frontier Housing CEO, said when receiving a federal grant, there are multiple steps in securing the funds.

"Accessing federal grant funds is always an involved process, but we are working through it as quickly as the process allows," he said. "We appreciate all the help we are receiving from Buffalo Trace ADD and the EPA as we move forward."

Frontier worked with city, county and state officials, along with staff from Buffalo Trace Area Development District, to secure the funding. Frontier purchased the approximately 1.5-acre property in November 2022.

Frontier Housing said the grant will be used to remediate hazardous substance contamination at the Hayswood Hospital property.
