Jun. 22—WALHALLA, N.D. — Frost Fire Summer Theatre opens its 38th season at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 25, with "The Sound of Music," at its amphitheater seven miles west of Walhalla, N.D.
The heart-warming musical is based on the life story of the Von Trapp Family Singers, one of the world's best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding WWII.
Maria, played by Misti Koop, is the spirited postulant at an Austrian abbey who becomes the governess in service to a widowed naval captain with seven children. She brings a new love of life and music into their home. The show is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp.
The cast also features Theron Taylor Montgomery as Captain von Trapp, Ryan King as Uncle Max, Emily Braunberger as Baroness Schraeder, Elizabeth Gazely as Mother Abbess, Mary Lizakowski Horton as Frau Schmidt and Paul Todhunter as Herr Zeller.
Performances will run Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with afternoon and evening performances available on the schedule, through the end of July. For a full schedule, visit

The Grand Forks Park District will host "Summerthing for Kids!," featuring fun activities for the whole family from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, June 22-23, at University Park.
At this free event, everyone is invited to soak in summer with two evenings of fun in one of Grand Forks' most beautiful parks.
You'll find tents full of hands-on activities for kids that will stretch their imaginations through building, painting, gluing and creating. Live music completes this summertime fest.
Plan to stay after the event Thursday for the park district's Movie in the Park presentation of "Encanto." Food will be available for purchase from the Ground Round eatery.
The Grand Forks City Band is set to perform its second concert of the season at 7 p.m. June 30, at the Myra Gazebo on the grounds of the Myra Museum, 2405 Belmont Road.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs to the free concert, which will feature the works of John Philip Sousa, Henry Fillmore, among others.
The concert program includes: "The Star-Spangled Banner," arranged by Sousa; "The Belle of Chicago," by Sousa; "The Cloth of Gold," by Fred Jewell; "Shenandoah," by Frank Ticheli; "Neola Waltz," by Jewell; "Semper Fidelis," by Sousa; "Pirates of the Caribbean," by Klaus Badelt, arranged by Ted Ricketts; "Break of Dawn," by Jewell; "Tijuana Brass in Concert," by Herb Alpert, arranged by Ricketts; and "The Klaxon," by Fillmore.

Members of the Thief River Falls Area Community Theater will present "Annie KIDS" nightly at 7 p.m. from June 28 to 30 at Northland Community and Technical College theater.
The hour-long performance, based on the popular comic strip, "Little Orphan Annie," is adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, "Annie." The production is specially designed to be produced with children in different grade levels.
The story revolves around a spunky and eternally positive orphan who is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years earlier at an orphanage in New York City in the 1930s. She foils the evil machinations of the orphanage's headmistress and is invited to spend Christmas in the home of Oliver Warbucks where she charms everyone with her sunny optimism, in stark contrast to the grim realities of the Great Depression.
