In a rare occurrence, frost may form tonight across the Space Coast in rural, cooler locations west of Interstate 95, the National Weather Service reports.

The strong winter storm that is dumping significant snowfall across the eastern United States spawned an EF2 tornado Sunday near Fort Myers, destroying 27 homes and inflicting major damages on 24 more.

“We had a cold front that came through late (Sunday), preceded by a line of showers and thunderstorms. It’s a pretty strong front, and there will be some colder air and drier air that will filter down later today and into tonight," said Tim Sedlock, a meteorologist at the Melbourne NWS station.

“As we go further inland — especially anywhere rural west of I-95 — we could go out into the upper 30s. And it could be in the middle 30s in a couple of cooler spots. And we could see some patchy frost," Sedlock said.

“We continue to be in winter. But we haven't had a lot of winter-like weather so far this year," he said.
