A frosty first pitch: Worcester Red Sox set to start 2023 season on March 31 at Polar Park

WORCESTER — Forget the baseball glove and pack your mittens.

The WooSox will start the 2023 season March 31 at Polar Park, which is the earliest ever for the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Worcester will host the Syracuse Mets in a three-game series to kick off its Opening Day weekend

The WooSox’ season schedule consists of 150 games, including 75 at Polar Park. It’s the most games Worcester/Pawtucket have ever played in a season (two games were cancelled due to rain in 2022 and the WooSox finished with a 75-73 record).

Plans are already in the works to insure fans enjoy new and improved experiences inn 2023. In typical WooSox fashion, the catch phrase for next season is “Even more to do and see in WooSox ’23.”

The team will unveil the new promotional calendar at some point in November.

The International League East should once again be one of the best divisions in MiLB. The WooSox will play Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Yankees), Buffalo (Blue Jays), Lehigh Valley (Phillies) and Rochester (Nationals) a total of 24 times each. Worcester will face Syracuse 21 times.

The WooSox will also play divisional opponents Norfolk (Orioles) 12 games, along with Jacksonville (Marlins) three games. Worcester will play outside the division when it hosts Columbus (Cleveland Guardians) of the IL West for six games. The WooSox will also travel to Louisville (Cincinnati Reds) and Gwinnett (Atlanta Braves) for the first time ever for six games apiece.

Once again, each series will be six games.

The WooSox will conclude their home schedule at 1:05 p.m. Sept. 17 vs. Syracuse at Polar Park. The final game of the season will be played Sept. 24 at Lehigh Valley.

Individual tickets for the 2023 season will go on sale in December (TBD). Season tickets are currently available by calling the WooSox ticket office at (508) 500-8888.
