A whole raft of new Frozen 2 details have emerged, including the reveal of just who Evan Rachel Wood will be playing.

While many fans had hoped that the Westworld star would be playing Elsa's girlfriend in the Disney sequel, it has been revealed that she is in fact playing Anna and Elsa's mother, Queen Iduna.

During Disney's D23 Expo, it was also confirmed that This Is Us' Sterling K Brown will voice Lieutenant Matthias, and it looks like Frozen and Frozen 2 will form "one complete story".

"We can tell you that Frozen 2 is even bigger and more epic, but most importantly in the end, Frozen 1 and Frozen 2 work together to form one complete story," co-director Chris Buck said at the presentation.

"We mentioned it's a story that starts in the past, so as you know, in these Disney films, we tend to kill off the parents. I know, we're very sorry. Guess what, we're bringing them back."

Co-director Jennifer Lee then added: "For a scene, don't tease," before Buck revealed: "Yes, for a scene. It's a flashback with Queen Iduna and young Elsa and Anna."

On top of that, the presentation included a new clip from the sequel that shows Kristoff trying to propose to Anna, as well as a new Elsa power ballad. How exciting!

Fans have been rallying for Elsa to come out as LGBTQ+ ever since the first movie was released, and the trailer for the second movie added fire to the rumour after unveiling a mysterious new female character.

Some had speculated that this character was voiced by Wood, but alas, it has not turned out to be true.

Star Idina Menzel was among those to support the #GiveElsaAGirlfriend campaign, and Jennifer Lee did not rule out the possibility in February 2018.

"It means the world to us that we're part of these conversations," she said. "Where we're going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we're really conscientious about these things.

"For me... Elsa's every day telling me where she needs to go, and she'll continue to tell us. I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa's doing in her life, she's telling me every day. We'll see where we go."

Frozen 2 is released in cinemas on November 22.
