🌱 Frozen COVID-19 Antigen Tests + Vermont Global Warming Risk

Morning, neighbors! Danielle Fallon here with the latest edition of the Burlington Daily.

First, today's weather:

Breezy in the morning. High: 16 Low: -2.

Here are the top 3 stories in Burlington today:

  1. According to new research, scientists predict that climate change could cost Vermont billions of dollars over the course of the next century. Researchers say that because of impending flooding in the region brought on by climate change, low-income Vermont residents could be at the highest risk of damages. (WCAX)

  2. In early November, a pilot program was launched in Vermont as the first step in an initiative to reduce plastic packaging from craft beer and cider industries from ending up in the waste stream. Since then, the initiative has collected 10,000 plastic can carriers from consumers in popular taprooms in the region. (Brewbound.com)

  3. Many Vermont residents this week dealt with frozen pipes, roads, and even antigen tests. Free COVID-19 antigen tests that were sent by mail ended up freezing for many during the cold temperatures over the weekend. (WCAX)

Doing a "Dry January" or just looking for a flavorful alternative to regular cocktails? Here's a suggestion: try a non-alcoholic drink from our partners at Betera. Created by an award-winning chef from natural botanicals, Betera’s drinks come in 3 flavors — Ginger-Orange, Elderflower-Lime and Rhubarb-Hibiscus. We tried Ginger-Orange, and it was excellent — lightly effervescent, floral with a hint of bitterness and the sippability of a cocktail.

Betera is offering readers of the Daily a 15% discount on their first order: use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — you can try Betera here.
