Frozen the Musical star Samantha Barks has announced that she's pregnant.

The actor and singer, who plays Elsa in the West End show, took to Instagram to reveal that she is expecting her first child with husband Alex Michael Stoll, who she married last year.

"We are so excited to meet you little one," wrote Barks in the caption, accompanying a photo of a cradle holding a note, which read: "We have been keeping a tiny little secret. Baby Barks-Stoll, due October 2023."

The star will go on maternity leave from August 23, with Jenna Lee-James assuming the role of Elsa until Barks returns in 2024 (via WhatsOnStage).

Whilst Frozen the Musical will carry on, development is now underway on Frozen 3, which was announced earlier this year by Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Though details for the movie remain firmly under wraps, the third instalment of the animated franchise will have a new director, with Jennifer Lee confirming that she wouldn't be returning to direct the film.

"I can't say where we are [with Frozen 3.] All our stories are driven by the artists in the studio. Where we're going with Frozen did not come from me," she revealed.

"It came from an incredible person. That's a new piece, I've told no-one. And I've been blown away by it and I'm just having a blast with that team."

Despite the film boasting a new director, the cast will likely remain the same, with both Josh Gad and Idina Menzel confirming they would reprise their roles as Olaf and Elsa respectively.

"I don't know a lot. To be completely honest, they teased it to us, and I have no idea," said Menzel. "They don't show you a script. They don't show you anything. All I know is, yeah we are going to make one, and that's it. So, I'm like, 'Cool! I will be able to pay my bills'."

Frozen and Frozen 2 are streaming on Disney+. Tickets for the West End musical are available here.
