Mar. 2—JEFFERSON — Charlie Frye's run as director of the Ashtabula County Board of Elections is over.

The Board of Elections made the announcement Tuesday after an executive session to discuss personnel. The organization announced that Isaac Athur was named chairman and John Mead — who had been deputy director — was named acting director.

Frye was recently found not guilty on theft charges related to an incident involving political signs leading up to the 2020 election. He also is the chairman of the Ashtabula County Republican Party.

Arthur said Frye finished his term with the board and is not continuing at this time.

Arthur and the board did not indicate whose decision it was for Frye not to continue as the organization's director.

It was not immediately clear if Frye planned to continue to lead the county GOP.
