Fugitive From Justice Seeks Date; 24 Vodka Bottles Taken: Blotter

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE
Ronald Erwin, 56, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is accused of being a fugitive from justice for a probation violation warrant and was arrested at 2:42 a.m. June 26 at Church Street and Raupp Boulevard. A customer at Chase Bank, 850 S Buffalo Grove Road, called police to report a nude man in his car in the parking lot. It was later determined that he had only been shirtless. The caller said the man began following them when they left the parking lot in their car. Eventually, Erwin was pulled over and told police that the caller had "gave me a wave" indicating a desire for intercourse. He was following because he thought the caller had found a good spot.

VIOLATING AN ORDER AFTER SERVED NOTICE
Raymond Michael Lopiparo, 28, of the 1400 block of Rachel Lane, Buffalo Grove, is accused of violating an order after being served notice and was arrested at 10:27 a.m. June 29.

DRIVING LICENSE SUSPENDED OR REVOKED
Esteban Bahena, 22, of the 1300 block of Argonne Drive, North Chicago, is accused of driving with a license suspended/revoked, speeding 30-39 miles per hour over the speed limit (79 in a 45), and was arrested at 4:42 p.m. June 28 at Lake Cook Road and Milwaukee Avenue. He was given a $2,500 bond and a court date of Aug. 14 in Mundelein.

UNLICENSED DRIVER

Stacey Marie Leeper, 35, of the 400 block of E Dundee, Palatine, is accused of being an unlicensed driver, speeding over the statutory limit, and was arrested at 12:01 p.m. July 2 on Arlington Heights Road near Beechwood. She was given a $2,500 bond and a court date of July 17 in Mundelein.

INCIDENTS

THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE
A resident in the 100 block of South Buffalo Grove Road called police at 4:10 p.m. July 1 to report their license plate had been stolen while parked in the parking lot. A license plate cover was broken and ripped off during the incident.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A resident of Rose Court West reported at 4:56 p.m. July 1 that they received a letter in the mail with a bank card attached from KeyBank. The letter indicated the card was from the Illinois Department of Employment Security. It was made out with the correct address and name, but the resident is not filing for unemployment as they're currently a retiree.

  • A Caren Drive resident called police at 11:04 a.m. June 26 to report the Village of Northbrook had received notice that they were filing for unemployment, though the resident said they had not as they’re currently employed. The claim included the resident’s social security number.

DECEPTION
A resident of Stonegate Road called police at 6:23 p.m. June 28 to report receiving a call from someone claiming to be from Venmo. The caller took the resident’s account made purchases in the thousands of dollars from numerous companies.

NEIGHBORHOOD TROUBLE
A resident in the 700 block of Grove Drive called 911 at 2:28 p.m. July 1 to report a neighbor in the apartment complex was driving aggressively and almost struck them. The resident stated they know the neighbor and it's an ongoing issue. According to the resident, the neighbor has an active order of protection against the resident and other members of the condo association board. Another resident also told police that the neighbor had almost hit them as well. The neighbor told police that the resident who called 911 can't "observe" or "stalk" them. The neighbor said the caller was recording them while they were driving around the complex.

THEFT OVER $500
An employee of Jewel-Osco, 79 N McHenry Road, reported at 1:35 p.m. June 26 a theft that had occurred 11 days earlier. A man entered the store, took multiple boxes of liquor and exited without paying for them. The items taken were eight boxes with 24 bottles of Absolut Vodka, each box totaling $1,568 in value.

FRAUD
A resident of Dundee Road talked to police at 5:17 p.m. June 29 to report they attempted to purchase a computer chair online, but did not recall the website they used. They were redirected to PayPal to submit payment for the purchase. A debit card purchase was made for $70.98, but the resident never received the chair. When the resident attempted to reverse the charges, the vendor attempted to bill them again.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A resident reported at 1:04 p.m. June 28 seeing two white men, possibly in their 20s, walking northbound along Buffalo Grove Road, near Half Day Road, shouting profanities toward one another. One man was carrying a backpack with shoulder-length blonde hair. The resident heard them use a racial slur while pushing each other.

PUBLIC COMPLAINT

  • A resident in the 600 block of W Thompson Boulevard called police at 7:13 a.m. June 30 to report they got into an argument with a construction worker because trash was on their lawn. The resident saw two tomato plants and a chair flipped over in the backyard. The resident thought the construction worker did it, but after some discussion, concluded it could’ve been due to some storms in the area.

  • A manager at Chase Bank, 1525 Deerfield Parkway, reported at 3:35 p.m. June 30 a customer entered the bank to deposit a check. The customer asked for the check amount back in full, but was told by an employee that they would not have access to the funds until the check clears. The customer became verbally abusive to bank employees and patrons, stating "you just wait." The verbal assault went on for several minutes before the customer left. The customer had been disruptive to employees on prior occasions.
