Fulda farmer killed, one injured in electrical incident

Sep. 29—FULDA — An incident involving overhead electrical lines near Fulda has resulted in the death of one farmer and left another in critical condition.

According to the Murray County Sheriff's Office, a call was received at 11:04 a.m. Wednesday reporting a farm implement had come in contact with electrical lines in Belfast Township. The caller told dispatch that he, as well as a second victim, had been shocked by the equipment that made contact with the electrical lines.

The victims were identified as Paul Kirchner and Kevin Boots.

Upon arrival, it was determined that the equipment was not safe for emergency responders to approach. A Murray County deputy was able to drive into the field to remove Kirchner, who was a safe distance away from the affected equipment.

Kirchner was transported to the Murray County Medical Center to be treated for his injuries; his condition at this time is unknown.

A short time later, Nobles Cooperative Electric workers were able to de-energize the electrical lines to provide emergency responders a chance to approach Boots.

Boots was immediately loaded into a waiting ambulance, but was pronounced dead on arrival to the Murray County Medical Center.

Murray County deputies, Fulda Fire Department, Fulda Ambulance, Murray County Ambulance and Nobles Cooperative Electric assisted at the scene.
