A full list of the crashes and chaos from IndyCar's GMR Grand Prix at IMS

Rain, crashes, pit strategy, and chaos created a wild IndyCar GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on Saturday. Here is a list of every incident that occurred during the race:

Lap 3: Graham Rahal and Marcus Ericsson

Graham Rahal and Marcus Ericsson collided at the end of Hulman Boulevard. Both cars were able to rejoin the race after the contact. No yellow was thrown for the incident. While Rahal and Ericsson tangled, Colton Herta was the first driver to switch from rain to slick tires. Herta was seen fighting the car for traction and made an incredible save.

Lap 6: Alex Palou

Second-place qualifier Alex Palou spun off in turn 10 and slid through the grass. The defending series champion made a valiant attempt to rejoin the race, but ultimately stalled the car in the middle of the track at turn 11. Kyle Kirkwood also spun off right behind Palou, but was able to rejoin the race without needing a restart. Palou's car was re-fired and he returned to the race, one lap down.

Lap 15: Kyle Kirkwood and Josef Newgarden

Trying to out-brake Conor Daly, who had slipped from the top 5, Kyle Kirkwood had his second off-track excursion when he broke too late and slid into the grass. Right in front of that incident, Josef Newgarden became trapped between Alexander Rossi and Jack Harvey. Rossi pinched Newgarden, forcing Newgarden into Harvey, who turned the two-time series champion. Newgarden came to a stop in Turn 12 causing a full-course caution. Newgarden returned to the race after repairing damage, but was 16 laps down.

Lap 21: Rinus VeeKay

Right after the restart, defending race winner Rinus VeeKay was pushed off track by rookie Callum Ilott in the first series of turns. VeeKay then spun back onto the track and was hit hard by Devlin DeFrancesco.

Lap 36: Scott Dixon and Dalton Kellett

During a round of green-flag pit stops, Scott Dixon and his team stretched their fuel one lap too far, causing Dixon to run out and limp down the pit lane. While Dixon was creeping to a stop, Dalton Kellett spun off and crashed into a tire barrier triggering the fourth full-course yellow of the day.

Lap 42: Pato O'Ward and Felix Rosenqvist

With clouds moving in and the halfway point approaching, Arrow McLaren SP teammates Pato O'Ward and Felix Rosenqvist tangled in turn 1. O'Ward spun and made contact with Rosenqvist. Rosenqvist stalled on track forcing a full-course yellow for the fifth time. Takuma Sato also spun with the McLaren teammates, but was able to rejoin the race without issues.

Lap 57: Jimmie Johnson

Jimmie Johnson, who was having an up and down day, spun in Turn 9 and stalled his car, bringing out the sixth full-course caution. It also bunched up the field, which had become spread out with the drivers who restarted on slick tires nearly half a lap ahead of the drivers who restarted on rain tires.

Lap 66: Scott McLaughlin

Now a timed race, Scott McLaughlin had a series of laps to forget. The former Australian Supercars champion, attempted to restart on slick tires. McLaughlin was one of three cars on the lead lap that elected to restart on the slick tires. However, before coming to the green flag, McLaughlin spun in Turn 11, causing the restart to be waived off. Then, when the race did restart, McLaughlin spun again in Turns 3 and 4 and brought out full-course caution number seven.

Lap 73: Juan Pablo Montoya

While running seventh, Juan Pablo Montoya brought out the eighth and final caution of the day with less than two minutes left. Montoya lost control exiting Turn 11 and slammed the wall. Montoya had driven as high as 6th from his 23rd place starting spot. The yellow ended the race with Colton Herta as the winner.
