Full speed ahead; General McLane seniors drive tractors, dirt bikes to last day of school
General McLane High School senior Brandon Dedrick was first to arrive Friday, parking his grandfather's 1968 Ford Mustang in the parking lot on Tractor Day, a long-running tradition for seniors on the last day of school.
"We have a strong hick presence, if you will," Dedrick said smiling, his bright blue eyes reflecting the sun as it rose over hills behind the football stadium at the Washington Township school.
He was soon joined by classmates riding golf carts, four-wheelers, classic cars and two tractors.
Jacob Haschalk, 18, made his entrance riding a wheelie a few hundred yards across the parking lot on his 2021 Honda CRF 250 motorcycle.

"It was a blast," he said as his twin brother Matt parked his Yamaha YFZ 450R Special Edition all-terrain vehicle nearby. The pair later sat together in the cafeteria, laughing and eating bagels at the special senior breakfast offered to the 177 soon-to-be graduates.
Principal Dan Mennow, 49, said students look forward to Tractor Day all year but only seniors are allowed to participate.
