I get a lot of beauty and skincare pitches in my inbox. And to be honest, most of them I hit delete. But when I get anything that is related to any of my girl crushes (Halle Berry, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Kelly Wearstler, Norma Kamali, Zoë Saldana), I immediately hit open. This one involves Halle Berry and LED light. I race to open it.

Apparently makeup artist Jorge Monroy (not just any makeup artist but Halle Berry’s makeup artist)  is a fan of CurrentBody, specifically their cult favorite flexible LED Light Therapy Face Mask. He uses it on Halle. Why is this LED mask different than others you ask? Well, it’s not only powerful, it’s fully flexible. Why is this so important? Read on.

I am no stranger to LED devices, and in my early to mid-30s I was obsessed with the Baby Quasar. I wrote about them so much the company contacted me asking to actually do sponsored posts. I am a huge fan of LED lights but I am not a huge fan of the time involved in using them. Time where I was precluded from doing other things. Holding a device up to your face for 20 minutes at a time doesn’t leave your hands free to do much. I was relegated to watching TV only during my at-home sessions.

I have tried some of the full face masks but they are so rigid and uncomfortable. I feel like I am wearing a welding mask. I fantasize it’s the opening scene of Flashdance and I am Jennifer Beals. But the scene that is actually happening is far from that glamorous. That rigid LED device was just too annoying to use so it went into the garbage.

This is Jennifer Beals in the 1983 film Flashdance. She is awesome. She probably uses LED although I don’t know for sure. This is sort of how I feel when I am wearing a full LED mask.

This CurrentBody device is made with patented flexible silicone. Hooray! The face mask emits two clinically proven wavelengths — red and near-infrared light — to target wrinkles, uneven tone, and blemishes. I have all of those things. So I need to use this. (P.S. While I have you I wanted to let you know that this post is not sponsored and I don’t have any affiliate links. This is a genuine post.)

The flexible silicone in this mask not only ensures that the maximum amount of light penetrates to the lower layers of the skin for both instant and long-term effects — but it makes it infinitely more comfortable to wear than traditional hard plastic shell masks. Another issue of the hard shell masks is that everyone’s face is a different shape, I didn’t think much of the light was close to my skin. Given this mask is so flexible, it should lay closely onto the skin, thus by that design improvement alone it should be more effective.

This mask is super flexible! I can’t wait to try it!

RESULTS AND PROTOCOLS

This mask is suggested for use with all skin tones, “it’s a multi-dimensional treatment that targets all aspects of aging skin for an overall more youthful complexion.” The suggested time to see results is after 4 weeks of use for 10 minutes a day. You also need to use it five times a week consistently. Ok then! I can do that!

After this protocol, users saw a 35% decrease in the appearance of wrinkles. As soon as the company sends me a free one (hopefully, after this post), I will let you know my progress. If they don’t send me a free one, I might break down and buy one. But it comes at a hefty price. The device is about $400. Ouch. For that much money I might just go to a series of sessions in an aestheticians office.

But, given how much I travel, I would still really like to try this. It also seems like a great device I can carry with me. Reviews online seem to be mixed. The best review I have seen is in Women’s Health US. Edition. I think at at the end of the day it takes commitment to using the device and it depends on what your skincare goals are. The flexible feature of this mask might make that commitment easier.

Do you have this device? Do you like LED? How do you like it? Please tell me in the comments?
