HILLSDALE — On Friday, Sept. 8, the Hillsdale Brewing Co. is hosting a benefit for Paul Lewis, the former Allen Township fire chief who is undergoing treatments for cancer.

“Paul is a mug club member and friend,” said Felicia Ray-Finch, manager of the Hillsdale Brewing Co., who is organizing the benefit along with Roy Finch and Brooks Kratzer.

Lewis was fire chief for about 15 years.

The benefit will be from 6-9 p.m., and the entrance fee is $25.

The dinner will include pulled pork, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and drinks. Pop and alcoholic drinks will be available for an additional cost.

Attendees also will have the chance to win door prizes and raffle baskets. There also will be live music, cornhole, darts, and axe throwing.

According to a statement from the fire department, proceeds from the benefit will go to help Lewis battle a rare form of cancer, which he was diagnosed with in June of 2023.

“Paul has a rare form of cancer and has to drive to Ann Arbor and Brighton several times a week for treatment and will be having surgery at the end of September,” the statement said.

Ray-Finch said the community response to the event has been good so far and that everyone is trying to find ways to help Lewis.

The flier for the event said that proceeds will go to help Lewis as the costs of treatment and travel pile up.

“The costs associated are extensive and accumulating as he battles this disease,” said the flier for the event. “Please join us for a night of fun to come together and help Paul.”
