Fundraiser started for Milford family whose house was severely damaged in fire

MILFORD An online fundraiser has been set up to help a family whose house was severely damaged by fire this week.

As of 10:30 a.m. Thursday, the GoFundMe has raised nearly $6,000 of the $10,000 being sought. Authorities said the house sustained significant damage.

The fundraiser was started on behalf of Antoinette Clement by Kaitlin Martins, who is described as a "family friend."

Neither Martins nor Clement could be reached for comment.

"Ms. Toni’s house was tragically perished by a fire in the tight-knit Milford neighborhood," the fundraising request reads. "Toni is a sweet lady who always offers a helping hand to those near her. She is kind, loving and giving. Please consider donating to help Toni pay for not only repairs, but items and priceless memorabilia in the home."

Earlier: Willow Road home in Milford is likely a total loss after two-alarm fire

Just before 4 p.m. on Monday, firefighters responded to 18 Willow Road for a report of a fire. Roofers had unintentionally sparked the fire on the roof, and it spread into the attic and then the rest of the home, fire officials said.

Fire Chief Mark Nelson said Monday that he believed the home was a total loss, despite the efforts of six fire departments at the scene.

According to the Milford Assessor's Office, the home is owned by Antoinette and Michael Clement. The colonial-style home was built in 1964 and was last assessed at $424,700.

No one was injured, but one resident was taken to the hospital during the fire for a non-specified reason.
