Fundraising continues in Lackawanna County for Detective Gilmartin

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Support for Detective Kyle Gilmartin continues to grow after he was wounded in an ambush on January 11.

Support for Gilmartin is still growing across NEPA, and local businesses, citizens, and schools stepping up and doing their part.

T-shirts, donuts, and more, all for Detective Kyle Gilmartin.

Over in Dickson City, Talk Shirty To Me continues to sell a custom variety of shirts and sweatshirts for Officer Gilmartin with high demand for them, the deadline has been extended to Friday, February 9.

“It’s been nothing but successful, people coming in but it’s not about the shirt though, it’s not about crewneck, it’s not about the hoodie, it’s not about anything like that, what it’s really about is the community getting together to get behind him,” said Talk Shirty To Me Owner Ron Augelli.

Also in Dickson City, throughout the entire month of February, Honor Barber Shop will be donating 10% of all haircut services to the Gilmartin family

“I do a lot of military, a lot of law enforcement and they’ve been kind to me over the years so it’s just trying to give back any way that I can,” said Adam Shand, Owner of Honor Barber Shop.

For those with a sweet tooth, Krispy Kreme in Scranton and Clarks Summit are doing a $5 three-donut special until February 2, one with blue frosting.

“We wanted to do our part and help,” said Scranton Krispy Kreme manager Mike O’hora.

“We wanted to show our support for the men and women in blue and their courage and dedication is inspiring all the time and we thought we could do this for Kyle Gilmartin and his family,” said Dooley Adcorft, owner of Scranton Krispy Kreme.

Even local schools are doing their part. Dunmore Elementary is hosting a dress-down day in support for Detective Gilmartin with any donations welcomed.

“All students are allowed to wear blue, we just ask if you can give, to give. We don’t give a set amount or ask for a set amount, we just hope that everyone is generous if they’re able to be,” said Dunmore Elementary Center Assistant Principal Michelle Kokindo.

The GoFundMe created by Scranton Police Union Member, Paul Tomczyk, on January 12 has completely surpassed its goal of $25,000, now reaching over 200,000 dollars of donations.

“These donations I think is a testament to everyone coming together and their voices being heard, the voices being they’re not gonna let the ill-will and harmful actions of a small percentage of the citizens overtake those who are good people in northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Paul Tomczyk, creator of the Gilmartin GoFundMe.

The GoFundMe is still up and running for anyone else who wants to contribute in helping the Gilmartin family and Detectives Gilmartin’s road to recovery.
