Bibb County Sheriff's Deputy Brad Johnson will be laid to rest Friday with a public visitation at the University of Montevallo Student Activity Center, beginning at 9 a.m.

The visitation will conclude at 11:15 a.m. and will be followed by a funeral service from noon until 1:30 p.m.

A procession to Centreville will follow with a private burial. Residents and well-wishers are encouraged to line the route of the procession to express their support for Johnson and his family, officials said.

"We would like to ask the public to participate in that as much as possible. There will be some suggested areas where they can line up (to view the procession)," said Chris Heisler, president and founder of the U.S. Honor Flag and the Honor Network. "Brad was a hero and he is going to get that honor as a hero."

Bibb County Sheriff Jody Wade agreed.

"Brad was ours, but he was everybody's," Wade said. "They (the public) have the right to show their respect in the way they feel fit, the way they feel is best going to honor Brad."

Johnson's funeral procession will move from Montevallo back to Centreville along Alabama Highway 25 and the sheriff said he expects the procession to be a lengthy one.

For those wishing to contribute to memorial fund benefitting Johnson and Deputy Chris Poole, who was wounded, donations can be given through the Bibb County Commission office at 157 S.W. Davidson Drive in Centreville.

Information about contributing to the fund also can found on the Bibb County Sheriff's Department's Facebook page.

Johnson and Poole were shot June 29 by a fleeing suspect, authorities said.

The suspect in the shooting, 26-year-old Austin Hall, was captured after a massive manhunt.

Hall faces two counts of capital murder — one for Johnson’s death and another for shooting into a vehicle resulting in a death — and one count of attempted murder for the shooting of Poole, according to the district attorney for Bibb County.
