Get funky with the ‘Goddess of Soul’ Martha High at Lynchburg’s Academy Center of the Arts

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR)– The ‘Goddess of Soul,’ Martha High, will be bringing her ‘Straight from the Soul’ show to the Academy Center of the Arts in Lynchburg on Friday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Born in Victoria, High is an internationally acclaimed recording artist and entertainer. Coined the ‘Goddess of Soul’ by funk icon James Brown because of her electricity on the stage, High is considered royalty in the world of Soul, Funk, and R&B music. She has spent nearly six decades entertaining audiences around the world traveling with the architects of funk including Brown, Fred Wesley, PeeWee Ellis, Maceo Parker, and many more.

Her life story is told through every song she sings. Each song is a homage to her friends, mentors, and heroes who inspired and educated her throughout her journey in the music and entertainment industry.

Along with one of the hottest bands in the area, The Soul Expressions, High will be bringing a personal selection of crowd-pleasing songs to the Academy of the Arts. The Lynchburg audience will get to experience her ‘Funky Get Down’ side from performing alongside some of the most influential people in the genre’s history.

Tickets for this concert begin sales on Friday, 1/26 at 10 a.m. Ticket prices range between $10-$50.
