Funky layout of this house has some saying ‘immediately no’ — but is it a new trend?

An interesting house layout that’s been around for a minute is starting to catch fire on TikTok, but not in a good way.

While highlighting a particular four-bedroom, 3.5-plus-bathroom house for sale in Hubbardston, Massachusetts, TikTok creator Zillowstrophes took aim at the primary suite in particular. While spacious, the bedroom had one important thing missing: a wall for the primary bathroom.

Mere feet from the bed, the toilet and the shower are positioned along with a huge tub. The listing on Zillow does mention this, but it seems to miss the fact that there’s a (very) open floorplan.

@zillowtastrophes Is this becoming a trend? $749,900 4 bd 4 ba 3,256 sqft 36 Kruse Rd, Hubbardston, MA 01452 #zillowtastrophe #openconcept #massachusettsrealestate #yikes #greenscreen ♬ Quirky Suspenseful Indie-Comedy(1115050) - Kenji Ueda

“What is going on here? Look at how close the toilet is to the bed. This is completely unacceptable,” she said in the video.

And nope, it’s not the only bedroom in the $699,900 house that has an open layout with the bathroom. There’s another with a Jacuzzi tub in the room. No door in sight — other than the door leading into the room itself.

“I hate everything about this bedroom,” the creator said of the second room.

Her viewers were just as shocked.

“I feel like this is a film set or something because there’s no way,” one person commented on TikTok.

“That better be one quiet toilet ... or some heavy sleepers,” someone said.

“If the bathtub and toilet in the first one switched places this would be pretty cool. Not as cool as if the toilet was walled off, but pretty cool,” one person observed.

“Immediately no,” another noted.

“That’s a big nope,” someone said.

The Zillowtastrophes creator asks at the end of the video if this is becoming some sort of trend, like if partners are getting too codependent and need to link hands and make unwavering eye-contact while nature calls.

The home is not without its good qualities, however. With 3,256-square-feet, it’s spacious and has an barn-like exterior with its architecture and matches its “oasis” description in the listing. Other features include:

  • Huge garage

  • Large kitchen

  • Central air

  • Deck

  • Swimming pool

  • Patio area

  • Fireplace

  • Walk-in attic

  • Updated roof

And of course, a new owner can always put up a wall for privacy.

But the lack of one certainly isn’t a new concept, like this house for sale in Kentucky. It could definitely be worse though — check out this house in England that has a very, very open concept when it comes to the bathroom.
