Former running back Arian Foster could not have imagined his comment on a podcast in February would still be fodder for NFL jokes today.

Foster said the NFL was scripted when he played in the league from 2009-’16. While Foster may have been kidding, the idea of predetermined outcomes for games has been parodied a lot this season.

Even commissioner Roger Goodell mentioned it while in Kansas City earlier this year.

The latest to do it is NFL in commercials promoting the 2023 season.

It shows comedian Keegan-Michael Key sitting with “NFL writers” and players at a table read.

In one spot, Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf offers to make a ‘no-handed catch” with his abdominal muscles. Key says they’ll call it the “Ab-ra-ca-graba catch.”

An NFL writer then suggests “the Mahomes character out of the script” entirely.

The Dolphins’ Jalen Ramsey, Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase and Metcalf all approved of the idea. The camera then cut to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who had joined on a Zoom call.

“Guys, not cool. Who said that?” Mahomes asked.

“You’re an actor, Patrick, act like one,” Key said.

Mahomes responded: “Boring.”

A second commercial from the NFL featured Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his mom, Donna.

At one point Donna suggested: “What if the Jimmy Garoppolo character fell in love with my character?”

Key said: “Steamy. Forbidden love.”

Travis Kelce responded: “That’s a good-looking guy right there mom. I see where you’re going.”
