When the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame's Class of 2022 is inducted in November, only one member of the class will be able to claim a record that one could deem untouchable.

That is Frank Selvy, who etched his name in to the record books of NCAA Division I basketball playing at Furman from 1951 through 1954. Selvy scored 100 points (41-of-66 shooting) against Newberry College on Feb. 13, 1954 – a record for points scored by a NCAA Division I basketball player in a game, regardless of the opponent.

It was announced Wednesday morning by Furman University that Selvy, 89, would be inducted to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in November.

He joins a Class of 2022 that includes former UConn star Richard "Rip" Hamilton, Larry Miller of North Carolina and the late Jimmy Walker of Providence. It includes coaches Jim Calhoun, Roy Williams, Lon Kruger, John Beilein and Jerry Krause.

Selvy, who went on to become a two-time NBA All-Star (1955 and 1962), was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1954 NBA Draft by the Baltimore Bullets. He went on to play for the then-Milwaukee/St. Louis Hawks, Minneapolis Lakers, New York Knicks, Syracuse Nationals and then again the Lakers after the team moved to Los Angeles.

While at Furman, Selvy was a consensus first-team All-American in 1954, two-time SoCon Player of the Year, led the NCAA in scoring his final two seasons and has his No. 28 jersey retired by Furman. He also spent time as assistant then head coach at Furman from 1964-1970.

A Corbin, Kentucky native, his scoring numbers in college are eye-popping: Selbvy averaged 32.5 points a game over 78 career games at Furman. At the time, the Southern Conference included N.C. State, North Carolina and Duke before the trio joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953.

His senior season he averaged 41.7 points per game during his senior season, a record that was held until Pete Maravich averaged 43.8 at LSU during the 1967-68 season.

The induction ceremony for the NCB Hall of Fame will be on Nov. 20, 2022.
