The Oct. 3-9 tournament, named after Ponte Vedra Beach pro golfer Jim Furyk, is a PGA Champions Tour event and part of the Charles Schwab Cup series.
The Furyk Foundation spent $1.5 million to erect tents to house VIP guests and scaffolding and foundations for observation and television coverage, according to building permits approved by the city.
Despite Hurricane Ian, which was at tropical storm strength when it went by Duval County, the preparations for the tournament went on. The course took only 1.25 inches of rain and none of the temporary tournament structures was damaged, the Times-Union reported.
