Future Black History Makers: Meet Anjali Boodram, a seventh-grader at Reid Ross

Anjali Boodram, 12, the daughter of Diane and Sunil Boodram, is in seventh grade at Reid Ross Classical Middle School.

She was nominated as a Future Black History Maker because "Anjali Boodram is a dedicated scholar," writes Carmen Nichols McFarlin, assistant principal at Reid Ross, who nominated her. "She is an honor roll student at Reid Ross Classical Middle School. She is enrolled at Reid Ross due to her focus on the arts and academics. Anjali is a member of the Green Tea Shakesperean Performance Troupe. Her membership in this organization affords her additional opportunities to build her capacity as a master thespian. Her dream is to become a renowned actress and make grand contributions to the arts as so many African Americans have done before her. She is thankful for their contributions, and she draws inspiration and motivation from them as she stars in numerous theater productions on the weekends and after school. She also enjoys figure skating. Anjali is a proud member of G.L.O.W. U.P., Girls Leading On With Unprecedented Poise. As a participant in this program, Anjali further develops her skills in public speaking, deportment, scholastic fortitude, collaboration, and school and community leadership. Anjali Boodram is a bright star, and trendsetter, and for certain, she is a Future Black History Maker."

What her parents say

What makes your child a Future Black History Maker? Anjali has amazed me with her growth of confidence in the GLOW up program, directed by Carmen McFarlin in school. She does well in school and when focused she will move mountains.

Why are you proud of your child? Anjali took on the challenge of ice skating and it taught her that if she falls, it may hurt, but get up, dust yourself off and try again. That attitude will help her navigate this world and be successful in anything she does. Of course, we are proud of her good grades.
