BIGBANG member G-Dragon has announced that he is preparing to release a new album in 2023.

In a video message to his fans on Sunday, the 34-year-old South Korean rapper revealed that after working on himself and recharging during 2022, he is now ready to return with a range of new music this year.

"I'm working on a new album. I'll be back in the new year with good news," he says in the video.

The upcoming album will be G-Dragon's first solo album since the release of his 2017 EP “Kwon Ji Yong," which featured the hit single ”Untitled, 2014.” The artist's most recent release was the 2022 BIGBANG single “Still Life.” Aside from making music, G-Dragon has collaborated with fashion brand Nike in recent years.

In his video message, G-Dragon also mentions that he wants to communicate and interact more with his fans, saying, "I haven't had much chance to speak with you all other than social media. I want to take this opportunity to share that I will work hard in 2023."

G-Dragon ends the video by expressing his well wishes for the new year: "Good job everyone for last year, you did really well. I wish you health in 2023, and may the new year bring you more luck. Let's soar once again in the new year."

The video is his first update since numerous contract shakeups at YG Entertainment. His fellow BIGBANG members Taeyang and Daesung have departed from YG Entertainment, but Taeyang has pivoted to their subsidiary label The Black Label. G-Dragon is BIGBANG’s only remaining member at YG.
