Gabriel Iglesias is coming to Savannah with his new Beyond The Fluffy World Tour - Go Big or Go Home on Saturday. Widely known as Fluffy, Iglesias is a well known and loved comedian.

Iglesias knew at 10 years old that he wanted to be up on the stage performing comedy after watching Eddie Murphy's Raw. He had a lot of early influences from comedy.

"All of my comedy influences would probably be cancelled today. I don't know if I should be name dropping or not," he said.

"Things you could say back then are not the things you can say now. I was a big fan of Sam Kinison, George Carlin, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Chris Rock...the material that was influential back then might not be considered influential now. Definitely the personalities and the way they presented themselves, like Robin Williams improvisational style of comedy with his voices and characters. The same thing with Eddie Murphy, he did a lot of voices and characters. I tried watching it the other day with the eyes of today and yeah, I got maybe two minutes in before I had to mentally hit that buzzer inside my head like 'yeah, I don't know if we could watch this today.

"I try to keep my show a certain way, so everybody can come out and enjoy it and have a good time and not feel like I'm attacking or being controversial, or divisive, but I do enjoy watching comics who are. I like Jim Jeffreys, Bill Burr, Tom Segura, Dave Chapelle. I like comics who push the envelope and make you feel uncomfortable with some of the things that they say."

After finding out he was diabetic, he became dedicated to his health and lost weight through diet and exercise.

Opinion: Dave Chappelle offends his audience in 'The Closer,' but he also makes us think

"I think the cakes slowed down over the years, especially when I started talking about that," he said. 'Don't get me wrong, people will still try to bring in things, but nothing makes it to the table anymore. Everything used to make it to the table. People bring gifts, and it goes through layers, security has to have a part. Anything that is edible, especially now with COVID, nothing makes it past the door."

Iglesias has very busy over the last six months. "First of all, getting back on tour, versus not being on tour, I had COVID a little while back, and we were in the process of trying to do a new special, unfortunately I got sick, so I had to go home. Netflix isn't getting a special for a while," he said.

"Aside from that, just going back on the road, and going out there trying to do shows, to be as productive and as safe and getting back to normal as much as we can. It's a little more challenging now. We are all trying to get back to that place we once were. Every state operates differently. Some states are very lenient, some states are very strict," Iglesias continued.

"For example, California, you've got to get vaccinated to take a shower at this point, so" he joked. 'And Texas is like 'what COVID'? So it all depends on where you're at."
