Gabriella Garza has been named the new weekend morning news anchor at Milwaukee's WISN-TV (Channel 12).
Garza, a native of Hartford, Michigan, will start her new gig March 9. She'll be sole anchor, paired with meteorologist Molly Bernard, from 5 to 6 a.m. and again from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The rest of the week, Garza will be a reporter at the ABC affiliate.
She's taking the spot at Channel 12 vacated by Cherney Amhara, who left the station in January after three years for an anchor-reporter job in Miami.
Before coming to Milwaukee, Garza had been weekday morning news anchor at KRGV-TV in Weslaco, Texas.
Her hiring is the latest change in the anchor lineup at Channel 12 — and the second consecutive Michigan native to join the station.
Last week, Channel 12 announced that Kristin Pierce, a Detroit native, would start as weekend evening news anchor at the end of the month. She's replacing Ben Wagner, who according to the station is leaving to look for other opportunities.
