A Gadsden man arrested for allegedly robbing the Exchange Bank on Noccalula Road on March 31 has been indicted on that charge and another in U.S. District Court.

Edward Aliji Muhammad Brown, 41, faces charges of armed bank robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a news release from Prim Escalona, U.S. attorney for Alabama’s Northern District, and Carlton Peeples, FBI special agent in charge.

The robbery at the bank at 1321 Noccalula Road took place at about 3:50 p.m. on March 31. The robber held tellers at gunpoint, according to the Gadsden Police Department.

Surveillance photos of the robber and his vehicle were circulated by authorities, and Brown was arrested the following day.

According to the U.S. attorney’s release, Brown was convicted in Etowah County Circuit Court in 1999 on a first-degree robbery charge.

Maximum penalties in the case are 25 years in prison for armed bank robbery and 15 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The FBI investigated the case along with the Gadsden Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Royster is prosecuting it.
