Gadsden State hires Lawson's Blake Lewis as AD, baseball coach
Blake Lewis is the new athletic director and baseball coach at Gadsden State Community College, effective June 1, according to a news release from the college.
Lewis is coming from Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, where he has served two stints as a coach and physical education instructor.
During his first tenure at Lawson State, Lewis was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association, became the all-time winningest coach in school history and took his team to a 12th-place national ranking.
Lewis moved to Montevallo in 2012 as assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator, and was instrumental in helping the team to back-to-back 30-win seasons and two appearances in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game.
He returned to Lawson State in 2015 as coach. He was named ACCC Co-Coach of the Year in 2020.
A graduate of Pleasant Grove High School, Lewis attended Bevill State Community College from 2001-03, earning All-Alabama Community College Conference honors. He earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2006 from Montevallo and a master's degree in physical education in 2008 from the West Alabama, where he also served as a graduate assistant in baseball.
“We knew we needed someone with experience and success to lead our coaching staff as well as our student-athletes,” said GSCC President Dr. Kathy Murphy. “We are excited about Coach Lewis becoming a Cardinal.”
