Gainesville high school football: Live scores from FHSAA first round playoff games

Now that Hurricane Nicole has come and gone, the opening round of the high school football playoffs get underway tonight.

The Gainesville area has 11 football programs that clinched playoff berths — and eight of them will take the field tonight, while Hawthorne and Union County enjoy their first-round byes as the No. 1 seeds in their regions.

P.K. Yonge also gets the night off as it doesn't travel to Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy until next week.

Hitting the road in round one of the playoffs is Fort White, which will travel to Madison County, and Newberry, which will stay local in its trip to Chiefland.

Meanwhile, Bradford, Buchholz, Eastside, Lafayette and Williston will all host their first-round opponents.

Buchholz, thanks to a generous offer from Newberry, will host Pace at Newberry High School after Hurricane Nicole forced the Bobcats and Patriots to move their game from Thursday night to tonight. The change left Buchholz scrambling to find a field since Eastside and North Marion are playing at Citizens Field tonight.
