Gainesville Orchestra performing holiday concert at Flagler College

The Gainesville Orchestra will perform its traditional holiday pops concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 in Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada St. Tickets to this performance – part of the EMMA Concert Association schedule – are $60 and available at emmaconcerts.com.

The orchestra – in its 40th season – is led by Maestro Evans Haile, who is celebrating 21 years as musical director and conductor.

The program includes favorites such as “Winter Wonderland,” by Dick Smith and Felix Bernard, “Trepak” from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” “Bugler's Holiday” by Leroy Anderson, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Hugh Martin and “A Musical Christmas Card” arranged by Maestro Evans Haile.

There will also be music from Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty,” Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s “Beauty and the Beast,” Austrian composer Johann Strauss II and Italian composer Giacomo Puccini along with many others.

The Orchestra will be accompanied by Guyanese Puerto Rican soprano Arianna Rodriguez. Rodriguez was a Florida District winner and Southeast Regional Finalist in the 2022 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and a Gerda Lissner Encouragement Award recipient. Rodriguez earned a bachelor’s degree of music in Voice Performance with Samuel Bonds from George Mason University, and later a master’s of music in Voice Performance with Stanley Cornett from Peabody Conservatory. She’s currently a student of Elizabeth Daniels.

Tickets include free parking at the St. Johns County Council on Aging, with a complimentary shuttle to and from the venue during Nights of Lights.
