Galaxy Quest 2 Almost Happened

It seems ‘Galaxy Quest 2’ almost happened before Alan Rickman’s death.

During an interview with Nerdist, ‘Galaxy Quest’ star Sam Rockwell revealed that the oft-requested sequel was about to happen, until Alan Rickman sadly passed away.

“They were going to do a sequel on Amazon,” he revealed. “We were ready to sign up, and [then] Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn’t available – he has a show – and everybody’s schedule was all weird. It was going to shoot, like, right now. And how do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That’s a hard void to fill.”

The original ‘Galaxy Quest’ starred Alan Rickman alongside Tim Allen, Sam Rockwell, Sigourney Weaver and Tony Shalhoub… and followed the exploits of a bunch of TV actors who are mistaken for the characters they played – the crew of the NSEA Protector.

Thought to be a valiant crew by a race of aliens seeking help, they’re thrust into the middle of a galactic war… with often hilarious results.

It turns out, according to Sam Rockwell, that Amazon was planning to revive the sci-fi comedy as an online series… but I think we all agree that Alan Rickman’s Dr Lazarus would be impossible to replace.

But could ‘Galaxy Quest’ end up being revived at some point?

I certainly wouldn’t rule it out – after all, it’s developed into quite a cult hit.

But for now, ‘Galaxy Quest 2’ remains off the table.
