Galentine's Day is a holiday that takes place on Feb. 13, the day before Valentine's Day and has unique ties to Indiana.
The holiday was invented by the writers of the show Parks & Recreation, which is set in a fictional town called Pawnee, Indiana. The holiday is a favorite of Leslie Knope, the fictional character played by Amy Poehler in the show.
After the show aired, the holiday took off, and now women everywhere have their own Galentine's Day celebrations.
Here are six events happening around Indianapolis to celebrate Galentine's Day.
Galentine's Party at Punch Bowl Social
When: Feb. 9 from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
Where: Punch Bowl Social |120 S Meridian St.
"Get your squad together for a night of Girl Power at Punch Bowl Social Indy! Get ready for DJ beats, throwback board games, & cocktails" the website reads.
Tickets are $15 each and are available to purchase through Eventbrite.
Galentine's in Fountain Square
When: Feb. 10 12 to 4 p.m.
Where: Fountain Square
"Join us for a day full of celebration of love (in all forms)! Dozens's of participating stores & restaurants will be offering Galentine's-specific events and pop-ups!" the event reads.
Galentine's Sip and Paint Workshop
When: Feb. 10 at 1 or 3 p.m.
Where: MXP Shop | 7826 N Michigan Rd.
Join one of two sip and paint sessions. "Bring a friend and enjoy lite snacks, wine and entertainment while creating memories on canvas together!" the event reads.
Tickets are $45 and are available for purchase through Eventbrite.
Taylor Swift Galentine's Party
When: Feb. 11 from 12 to 2:30 p.m.
Where: Skateland | 3902 N Glen Arm Rd.
Skate the night away listening to your favorite Taylor Swift songs, play Swiftie trivia, make friendship bracelets and take Galentine's photos. There's also a "Best matching squad outfit contest."
Admission is $13 and does not include the $5 skate rental.
Galentine's Day Wine and Comedy
When: Feb. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Great Legs Wine Bar | 906 Carrollton Avenue #417
"Sip wine and spill secrets at Great Legs Wine Bar inside The Garage Food Hall, then strut your stuff across Carrollton Avenue to the glamorous Bottleworks Hotel for an intimate comedy show brought to you by Let's Comedy with headliner Hannah Belmont and featuring Laura Cord and Jetta V," the website reads.
Tickets are available for $45 each or $100 for two tickets with VIP seating at the comedy show. Purchase tickets at Simpletix.
Market Vintage Galentine's Day Clothing Swap
When: Feb. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Where: Market Vintage | 9 Johnson Avenue
"What better way to celebrate friendship than a clothing swap? Bring your pals to our first clothing swap of 2024! Bring clothes, leave with clothes. Who knows what cast-aside treasures you'll discover from someone else's closet!"
This clothing swap is for teens and adults. Guests are encouraged to bring their clean and in good condition clothing and accessories to swap. All reamining items will be donated to Thrifty Threads.
Tickets are not required, but you can find more information about this event on allevents.
