Galesburg Heritage Days among 12 things to do this weekend

There are things for all ages to do this weekend in Galesburg.

The annual Galesburg Heritage Days highlights the things to do in the area this weekend:

28th Annual Galesburg Heritage Days

What: One of the Midwest's largest and most unique free public admission living history events features both a pre-1840 early American Colonial/Frontier Rendezvous and a Civil War Battle Encampment/Re-enactment. The event is held at two separate but close venues at Lake Storey Park, all on the same weekend. Share in the excitement with almost 1,000 fellow reenactors-living historians and almost 50 merchants.

The John Pecsi Show

What: The John Pecsi Show brings together an eclectic group of musicians from different backgrounds who merge together to form a style of reggae rock 'n' roll.

When: 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18 (open at 5 p.m.)

Where: Walnut Grove Farm, 1455 Knox Station Road, Knoxville

What: LP33 will perform classic rock on the outdoor stage.

River2River Car Cruise

What: Event includes cruise night car show, 50/50 raffle, music by 3D Sound and several food truck vendors. Hosted by New Limited Rods of Western Illinois.

Senior Studios (Indigo Tie-Dye)

What: Take tie-dye to the next level with beautiful, deep blue and white designs on fabric. Gather, meet new people and have fun making art. Register online or in person.

Speakeasy Soiree

What: Celebrate the 107th birthday of the Jewel of Galesburg, the Orpheum Theatre, with this fundraiser. This Speakeasy Soiree will have an ambiance that reflects the gin mills of bygone days. Enjoy prohibition-era themed cocktails, card games and hors d’oeuvres while the victrola radiates vintage tunes. The fundraiser will also include a silent auction where, among other items, guests can bid on sets of vintage Orpheum Theatre seats to bring a piece of theatre history into their own home.

The Tangents

What: The Tangents are an acoustic duo from Springfield known for their eclectic style and crowd interaction. With Casey Cantrall on guitar and vocals and Tiffany Riech-Cantrall on vocals, the pair enjoy playing country, rock, pop, blues and more.

Honoring The Rich History of Galesburg’s Hispanic Railroad Camps

What: Food will be available for purchase from Smokin Willie’s BBQ. Drinks will be available for purchase at the bar. Silent Auction and 50/50 drawing. Music from Bits N Pieces Band. We invite all family members whose families lived in one of the four railroad camps. Open to the public.
