Galesburg High School boys basketball team easily beats Sterling in league play at Thiel

GALESBURG — The Galesburg High School boys basketball team led wire-to-wire Tuesday night in Western Big 6 Conference play against Sterling at John Thiel Gymnasium.

And the Silver Streaks secured a 73-48 victory over the Golden Warriors.

Galesburg (19-5, 5-4) jumped out to a 7-0 lead to open the contest before Sterling sophomore Andre Klaver scored with 6:28 left in the first quarter.

When the first eight minutes elapsed, the Streaks held a 24-15 advantage over the Golden Warriors (15-9, 3-6). Klaver netted 13 points in the first stanza, and he ended up only scoring two points the rest of the way.

Galesburg was ahead 35-27 at the half and held a 48-36 lead over Sterling heading into the fourth quarter.

Streaks senior post Koen Derry finished with 22 points and nine rebounds. Galesburg senior Dre Egipciaco chipped in 17 points and had 11 rebounds, and junior Easton Steck added 13 points for the Streaks.

John Paul Schilling chipped in a dozen points for the Golden Warriors in the defeat.
