GALESBURG — After the first eight minutes of play against Burlington, the Galesburg High School boys basketball team faced a deficit.

However, the Silver Streaks overcame it, and they came away with a 76-66 win over the Iowa-based Grayhounds.

Galesburg trailed Burlington 22-14 after the first quarter. The Streaks clamped down on the defensive end in the second stanza, and they allowed the Grayhounds to score only six points. Galesburg tallied 15 points in the quarter and clung to a 29-28 at the half.

The Streaks came out of the locker room red hot, and they combined for 28 points in the third quarter for a 57-40 lead over the Grayhounds heading into the final eight minutes.

Junior Easton Steck had a career-high 18 points to lead Galesburg. Senior point guard Jeremiah Babers finished with 17 points, and senior Alex Egipciaco chipped in 14 points. Senior post Koen Derry ended up netting 13 points — only two points came in the first half — for the Silver Streaks.

"I feel like we could have done a lot better," Alex Egipciaco said. "In the third quarter, we had that stretch — and at the beginning of the fourth — where we had flow and rhythm and that's the way we have to play all 32 minutes."
