Galesburg teacher on leave after arrest for sexual assault from when she was in Monmouth-Roseville schools

GALESBURG — A District 205 teacher placed on administrative leave will appear in court Feb. 1 after being arrested for criminal sexual assault and sexual abuse.

Court documents show 60-year-old Deborah Greenlief is charged with sexually assaulting a teenage boy between 2011 and 2013 before she came to work at Galesburg Public High School in 2017.

Greenlief was arrested by Illinois State Police on the evening of Jan. 5, a spokesperson from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office said. According to Greenlief’s LinkedIn account, she worked as a special education teacher at Monmouth-Roseville High School between Aug. 1998 and June 2015.

Monmouth-Roseville District Superintendent Edward Fletcher confirmed that Greenlief worked inside Monmouth-Roseville High School as a Knox-Warren employee working for the special education cooperative. After Monmouth-Roseville, Greenlief worked as a special education teacher at Galesburg High School.

Galesburg School District Superintendent John Asplund said it was his decision to place Greenlief on leave after he heard unofficial reports of her arrest on Jan. 5. She was a special education teacher at Galesburg High School.

“No one from Warren County has ever called me,” Asplund said of the case.
