Game of Thrones star Aiden Gillen tries to locate a wealthy widow's granddaughter in the first trailer for Barber.

Screening in US cinemas and on demand from Friday, September 22, the thriller, which premiered earlier this year at the Dublin International Film Festival, doesn't yet have a release date for UK audiences.

In the trailer, Gillen stars as private investigator Valentine Barber – armed with "guesswork [and a] good pair of shoes" – whose hunt for the truth sees him cross paths with powerful thugs as buried secrets rise to the surface.

He's joined by cast members including The Virtues' Helen Behan, Ballykissangel's Deirdre Donnelly, and singer-songwriter Camille O'Sullivan, whose acting credits include Mrs Henderson Presents.

Gillen was a regular presence on Game of Thrones, playing the manipulative Petyr Baelish (aka Littlefinger) for seven seasons, when his character was killed off.

Reflecting on how he learned Littlefinger would meet his end thanks to Arya Stark, Gillen told Entertainment Weekly at the time: "[Showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff] never ring you up — maybe once in six years.

"I learned about that call from [Roose Bolton actor Michael McElhatton] when he told me about his call and he talked about how it made him feel.

"And I thought if I get that call — or rather when as this has got to happen sooner or later to a character like Littlefinger — I wondered how it would make me feel. Because the show is such a part of your life for so many years, you start to think, 'What will your life will be like outside of it?'

"It's a potent loss," he further commented. "You're left a little bereft — for your character and for your experience. It also immediately makes you quantify the hugeness of what that experience has been over the last seven years, which has been massive."

Following his time on the HBO drama, Gillen has appeared in Peaky Blinders as Aberama Gold, and more recently starred in Mayor of Kingstown alongside Jeremy Renner.

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray. House of the Dragon airs on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
