Game of Thrones stars pay tribute as Dame Diana Rigg passes away

Game of Thrones stars have shared touching tributes to the late Dame Diana Rigg following the sad news of her passing.

The iconic actress, who played Olenna Tyrell in the HBO series and had a career spanning decades, died peacefully earlier today (September 10).

Some of her Game of Thrones co-stars, as well as writers from other shows, have now taken to social media to pay tribute.

Jaime Lannister actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau wrote on Instagram: "Dame Diana Rigg. She always raised the bar with her incredible talent, intelligence and wit. An absolute joy and honour to work with. May her soul Rest In Peace."

John Bradley, who played Samwell Tarly, tweeted: "Diana Rigg was just wonderful. But you all knew that already. Everybody did. Very sad news."

"Be a dragon. The realm will always remember Diana Rigg," shared the Game of Thrones official Twitter account, while Oberyn Martell actor Pedro Pascal simply wrote: "The true queen of Westeros."

Elsewhere, Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman shared his experience of working with Rigg on the show, writing: "She was glorious and funny and didn’t suffer fools. She was a consummate pro.."

Mark Gatiss, who worked with Rigg on the Doctor Who episode The Crimson Horror also shared a touching tribute, writing: "There will never be another. RIP."

Beginning her career on stage in the 1950s, some of Rigg's most memorable work comes from her roles in the Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service and the spy series The Avengers, for which she received a special BAFTA award.
