BBC's Famous Five reveals cast – including Game of Thrones' Jack Gleeson

The BBC has revealed the cast for its upcoming TV adaptation of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five novels, which follow the adventures of five daring young explorers.

Don't Breathe 2's Diaana Babnicova has been cast in the lead role of George, while The Northman's Elliott Rose, Belfast's Kit Rakusen and newcomer Flora Jacoby Richardson will play her cousins Julian, Dick and Anne, respectively.

The Famous Five is rounded out by a Bearded Collie Cross named Kip, who takes on the role of Timmy the dog.

Jack Gleeson, known for playing the evil Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones, will star alongside the fresh-faced cast as Wentworth. If the first still of Gleeson in action is any indication, Wentworth is not to be trifled with.

Meanwhile, Ted Lasso's James Lance will portray George's father Quentin, I May Destroy You's Ann Akinjirin will star as her mother Fanny, and Diana Quick will play Mrs Wentworth.

Speaking about the cast, episode one director and executive producer Tim Kirkby said: "Our brilliant young cast are mind-blowingly talented and, along with Kip (playing Timmy), they are already bringing these gorgeous characters to life in a fresh and modern way."

He added: "Together with the brilliant Jack, Ann, James and Diana we can’t wait to bring these glorious, action-filled, epic, family adventures to the screen."

The Famous Five is set to follow the titular explorers as they "encounter treacherous, action-packed adventures, remarkable mysteries, unparalleled danger and astounding secrets".

It has been described as "an unforgettable odyssey that evokes the power of camaraderie between the fearless young heroes".

The Famous Five has not been given a release date yet.
