It's been a season of change for the Silverton football team, but some things never change.

The Foxes won the OSAA Class 5A state title last season, then their coach resigned and a core group of seniors graduated, yet here Silverton sits at 4-1 overall and 4-0 in the Mid-Willamette Conference.

The Foxes will try to continue rolling this week at 7 p.m. Friday at home against Crescent Valley in the Statesman Journal Game of the Week.

Silverton went 12-1 last season, with the only loss coming to 6A Tualatin.

After winning the state championship, head coach Josh Craig resigned to spend more time with his young family.

The Foxes then hired Dan Lever from Tualatin to be their next head coach.

This season, Silverton’s only loss came in California.

In fact, the Foxes haven’t lost to an Oregon 5A team since Nov. 23, 2019, against Thurston in the state semifinals.

Silverton’s wins this season have come against Dallas, Central, South Albany and Corvallis.

“I think the biggest key for us is playing as a team and all the young guys filling big roles,” senior Jackson Pfeifer said. “Our defense has also came a long way since Week 1, which has helped us a lot.”
