'Game winners': Who are the Herald News Basketball Players of the Week for Jan. 2-7

FALL RIVER — The 2022-23 high school winter season is underway for Greater Fall River sports teams.

Here's your chance to vote for the top basketball players from Jan. 2-7.

This poll ends on Jan. 13. Don't wait, vote now.

Durfee's Devontae Stewart won the male Player of the Week for Dec. 26-30. Westport's Meghan Molloy took home the female Player of the Week honors and was the top vote getter.

Each week during the high school season, the Herald News will conduct a Player of the Week poll.

There will be two winners, one for a male athlete and female athlete.

Here are the nominees for the week of Jan. 2-7:

Angel Martinez, Atlantis Charter

Martinez had a team-high 25 points against Diman.

Karter Perreira, Atlantis Charter

Perreira scored a team-high 15 points for the Tritons against Old Colony.

Sam O'Leary, Connolly

O'Leary led Cougars with 10 points, 18 rebounds and six blocks against Old Colony. She also added two points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks against Blue Hills.

Brooke Orton, Case

Orton netted a game-high 23 points for the Cardinals in a win against Greater New Bedford.

Liberty Gazaille, Case

Gazaille finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals in a win against Greater New Bedford.

Sam Perry, Diman

Perry had a team-high 15 points for the Bengals in an overtime game against Upper Cape. He netted a game-high 29 points against Atlantis Charter.

Avery Rounds, Diman

Rounds scored 16 of her game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter for the Bengals in a win over Old Colony.

Jeyden Espinal, Durfee

Espinal finished the game with a team-high 20 points against Brockton. He also scored the game winner and scored a team-high 14 points in a win over Braintree.

Julia Hargraves, Durfee

Hargraves led the Hilltoppers with a team-high 13 points in a win against Brockton.

Landry Caron, Durfee

Caron scored key buckets for the Hilltoppers and finished with 10 points against Brockton.

Mya Hayes-Paulette, Durfee

Hayes-Paulette had a game-high 20 points in a win against Seekonk.

Jada Holley, Durfee

Holley ended with 10 points in a road win against Seekonk.

Brendon McDonald, SBR

McDonald finished with chipped in with 17 points in a win against Fairhaven. He also had a game-high 26 points, five assists and five rebounds against Greater New Bedford.

Mason Medeiros, SBR

Mason poured in a team-high 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a win over Fairhaven.

Mia Gentile, SBR

Gentile led the way for the Raiders with a team-high 24 points in a win against Fairhaven. She also added a team-high 19 points against Greater New Bedford.

Owen Boudria, Westport

Boudria scored a game-high 21 points in a victory over Blue Hills. He finished with 21 points in a win against Fairhaven.

Hunter Brodeur, Westport

Brodeur netted a game-high 22 points for the Wildcats in a win over Fairhaven.

Max Morotti, Westport

Morotti added 19 points to help the Wildcats beat Blue Hills.

Sarah Perry, Westport

Perry netted 15 points, five rebounds and three blocks against Fairhaven.
