GameCenter final: Denver 3, UND 2
Nov. 11—GRAND FORKS — Denver rookies Aidan Thompson and Jared Wright scored their first-career goals — Wright's broke a 2-2 tie in the third period — and the Pioneers beat UND 3-2 in the series opener Friday in Ralph Engelstad Arena. It marked Denver's third win in its last 20 games against UND in Grand Forks.
First star: Aidan Thompson, DU, 1 goal, 1 assist.
Second star: Jared Wright, DU, game-winning goal.
Third star: Chris Jandric, UND, power-play goal.
Denver 1, UND 0 — Carter King (Kyle Mayhew, Kent Anderson) 5:09. UND survives a Denver five-on-three power play for 1:47, but the Pioneers capitalize a couple shifts later when Mayhew digs a puck off the wall and finds King wide open at the top of the slot. King picks the corner for his second goal of the season.
Denver 1, UND 1 — Griffin Ness (Ryan Sidorski, Dylan James) 17:59. James takes a hit in the neutral zone from Denver's Connor Caponi, but starts a 2-on-1 rush. Sidorski gets the puck and centers it to Ness on top of the crease. Ness pokes it five-hole on Denver goalie Magnus Chrona to tie the game.

Second period
Denver 2, UND 1 — Aidan Thompson (Jared Wright, Kyle Mayhew) 2:17. Denver regains the lead after a miscue in the defensive zone. Owen McLaughlin attempted to leave a puck for Jackson Kunz to skate out of the zone, but Kunz slightly overskated it and Thompson picked it up with space. The Blackhawks pick turned and wired a shot to the corner of the net for his first collegiate goal.

Third period
Denver 2, UND 2 — Chris Jandric (Riese Gaber, Jackson Blake) :33 (pp). UND keeps its streak alive of scoring on the power play in every game this season. This time, it keeps things simple. Jandric has the puck at the top and snaps a shot through two layers of screens for his second goal of the season.

Pregame notes
Gavin Hain, who missed last weekend with a lower-body injury, is back for UND. He is playing on a line with Owen McLaughlin and Riese Gaber. . . UND's shutdown line will presumably be Mark Senden, Louis Jamernik V and Judd Caulfield. . . UND also is scratching Matteo Costantini. . . Denver will be without defenseman Sean Behrens, who suffered an injury Saturday night when he was checked from behind into the boards by St. Cloud State's Jami Krannila. . . The goalie battle is Drew DeRidder vs. Magnus Chrona.
