GameCenter final: UND 5, Quinnipiac 5, tie
Oct. 14—GRAND FORKS — No. 3 UND rallied from a three-goal deficit to tie No. 8 Quinnipiac 5-5. They held a shootout after the game and UND won, but the shootout does not matter in the Pairwise Rankings. The game goes down as a tie.
First star: Chris Jandric, UND, 1 goal, 1 assist.
Second star: Jackson Blake, UND, 1 goal, 1 assist.
Third star: Jacob Quillan, QU, 1 goal, 1 assist.
Quinnipiac 1, UND 0 — Joey Cipollone (Jacob Quillan) 11:09. UND defenseman Cooper Moore has the puck behind the net and attempts a pass to the wall. Quillan picks it off and quickly passes it to Cipollone in the slot. Cipollone makes a nice play to reel in the puck and pick the corner of the net.
Quinnipiac 2, UND 0 — Cristophe Tellier (Christophe Fillion, Jacob Nordqvist) 16:42. Quinnipiac hems UND in its own end and makes the Fighting Hawks pay. Fillion launches a shot from the right side that UND defenseman Ethan Frisch dives and blocks. But Tellier picks up the puck behind him, moves it to his backhand and puts away his second of the season.
Quinnipiac 3, UND 0 — Jacob Quillan (T.J. Friedmann, Joey Cipollone) 19:08. Quinnipiac tacks on another one before the end of the period. Friedmann gets the puck behind the net and finds Quillan, who is uncovered in the left circle. Quillan picks the corner of the net for his first goal of the season.
Quinnipiac 3, UND 1 — Dylan James (Nick Portz, Matteo Costantini) 2:52. James makes a play at his own blue line to spin off of Quinnipiac defender Jacob Nordqvist and start a two-on-one. James passes to Portz, who re-directs one off the post. The rebound comes back to the crease, where James puts it away for his first-career goal.
Quinnipiac 4, UND 1 — T.J. Friedmann 8:55. Friedmann wins a puck battle with UND forward Jackson Blake along the wall as UND tries to exit the defensive zone, curls to the center of the ice and rifles a shot past Jakob Hellsten's blocker.
Quinnipiac 4, UND 2 — Riese Gaber (Owen McLaughlin) 16:21. McLaughlin makes a tremendous play to circle the zone while protecting the puck, get behind the net, stop, and find Gaber camped out front. Gaber puts it away for his second of the year.
Quinnipiac 4, UND 3 — Jackson Blake (Chris Jandric, Riese Gaber) 5:55 (pp). Quinnipiac is tired on the penalty kill and Blake takes advantage. He puts a spin move on a defender takes it to the net, draws a penalty and finishes for his second goal of the season.
Quinnipiac 4, UND 4 — Chris Jandric (Jackson Blake, Cooper Moore) 7:43 (pp). Quinnipiac takes a third-straight penalty and UND takes advantage of a five-on-three power play. Blake nearly loses the puck in the slot to a pair of defenders, but pulls it back and gets off a shot from the slot. That shot is blocked, but Jandric picks up the rebound and picks a corner.
UND 5, Quinnipiac 4 — Gavin Hain (Jake Schmaltz) 8:17. Just as the power play expires, UND takes its first lead of the night. Schmaltz grabs a puck coming up the wall and hits Hain at the inside of the left circle. Hain snaps a shot that trickles past Quinnipiac goalie Yaniv Perets.
UND 5, Quinnipiac 5 — C.J. McGee (Jayden Lee, Ethan de Jong) 10:25. Quinnipiac has an answer for UND's rally with an extended offensive zone shift. Lee feeds McGee at the top of the right circle. McGee hammers it into the corner of the net to tie it.

UND shakes up its lines big time from last weekend's series against Holy Cross. The four centers remain the same, but they've got new wingers. . . Quinnipiac has eight freshmen on its roster, but five aren't playing and one is the extra skater as the Bobcats opt for a veteran lineup. . . The goalie battle is Drew DeRidder vs. Yaniv Perets.
