Gang member sentenced for 2016 murder in Fairfax County

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — An MS-13 gang member was sentenced on Wednesday to 25 years in prison for the kidnapping and murder of a teenage boy in 2016.

Edwin Orellana Caballero, who was 16 years old and living in Alexandria at the time, was one of several gang members who kidnapped and killed the 14-year-old boy.

On the night of Sept. 26, 2016, the gang lured the teen to Holmes Run Stream Valley Park in Fairfax County and murdered him in a wooded area with knives, machetes and a pickaxe. Orellana Caballero struck him multiple times with the pickaxe, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO).

Once the boy was dead, the gang buried him in a shallow grave.

Orellana Caballero pleaded guilty to one count of maiming in aid of racketeering activity, admitting to participating in the 14-year-old’s murder for the purpose of maintaining and increasing his position in MS-13.

A total of 17 people have been charged in this case.

Of those, five defendants went to trial and were convicted of all charges. 10 others pleaded guilty before trial.
